The Edge of the Nation
I came to Seattle to visit a friend who lives there! I tend to avoid metropolitan areas when I am traveling alone, but I have had some postive experiences visiting them when I have a guide to help show me around and navigate all the mysteries. Passing through the Cascades to arrive in Seattle was quite dazzling, these mountains are VERY BIG!
First impressions of the city were a bit terrifying, with all the traffic and pedestrians, and even some weird intersections that were hard to navigate...why is there a 5 way intersection? Who knows! Thankfully I didn't have any incidents, but driving here was not a very pleasant experience.
Me and my friend met at the Green Lake park, and before long we figured out a good place to eat. We walked around the city a lot, at first I thought I could drive around but theres no easy parking and the streets are very congested. After witnessing that mess I found a place to park and we walked or took the rails for the rest of the day. We got to see the space needle! And the pike place market and cool shops within, including a really cool gem shop and comic store. And a street full of places to eat where we got some lovely chicken sandwiches. Last thing we did before dark was check out a park by a river, we walked under a bridge and saw some owls.
I stayed in town quite late, and I had a great time. I had to drive an hour back to my campsite after the visit, and it was late enough that I was VERY tired on the drive back out of Seattle. If I stayed any later I may have died! Got to sleep at like 2:30 in the morning. I departed Washington in the morning, to hit the desert in Oregon. I had fun with my friend but I don't see myself coming back to Seattle for any reason other than hanging out with people. The bustle of cities is not for me, but admittedly, walking around and seeing so many cool businesses and taking trains around was quite cool.
