Arches National Park Utah

Arch You Having Fun Yet?

This was my second time returning to Moab. A year prior, I went to Canyonlands National Park, and now I've come back for the arches too. The vistor center was truly packed when I got there, but the crowds in the park itself were navigable. I didn't have to wait in a long line to get in either. I did have to do a timed entry reservation, which set my visit a few hours later than I wanted it to be...no big deal, in the end.

Moab and its surroundings are an iconic red hue, which looks spectacular when basking in the sunlight. The scenery is truly extreme here, with massive rock formations, cliffs, arches, bluffs, and deposits of lovely red sand. Recalling it feels kind of like I was in an art museum. The towering landmarks on the horizons are clearly visible in town: the sheer red cliffs surrounding the city, and the huge La Sal mountains with their snow-capped peaks.

Entering the park through it's main entrance, you snake your way upwards, to lands above and beyond what was visble before. From what I can tell, it seemed that the park was a lot higher in elevation than Moab. The road through the park is quite long, and has a lot of turnoffs to points of interest. Devils Garden was my favorite part of the park. It's a smattering of really really tall rocks, some spear-like, and theres many arches around too.

I did hike a couple trails but theres a lot more to do that I didn't get around to on my first day there. If I came back, I would definitely make the hike out to Delicate Arch. I got a picture of this arch from a viewpoint below, but I feel like I missed out by not hiking up to it. I think I will come back some day.
